South Bay Birders,
Given all the vagrants showing up on the coast the past few days, I thought
I'd check CCFS in the hope that I could find a good bird or two. No such
luck. Mike Rogers and I birded the west side of Coyote Creek from the
trailer north to Dixon Landing Road. I then birded the east side of the
creek all the way south to 237, then came north along the west side back to
the trailer (though I ran out of time and didn't have time to cover the
vicinity of the banding net lanes well).
Approximate totals of some migrants, new arrivals, and other interesting
birds follow:
1 Prairie Falcon (seen only by Mike)
1+ Vaux's Swift
20+ Western Flycatchers
4 Willow Flycatchers
1 Western Wood-Pewee
1 Cassin's Vireo (singing)
1 Warbling Vireo
200+ Violet-Green Swallows
75 Barn Swallows
6 Oak Titmice (very rare here just 10 years ago)
8-10 House Wrens
3 Swainson's Thrushes
5 Hermit Thrushes
5 American Pipits
18-20 Orange-crowned Warblers
110+ Yellow Warblers
10 Black-throated Gray Warblers
9 Townsend's Warblers
5 Wilson's Warblers
2 Western Tanagers
I quickly checked State and Spreckles, finding one HY Ruff.
