I did not find the Franklin 's Gull at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant yesterday, but since Tom sighted it this morning, I decided to try again this afternoon (9/30/06). This time, I found it easily. It was the only gull that stayed low over the channel when a jogger ran by. Since it was hovering, it was very easy to photograph. I took a lot of pictures as it slowly flew towards me, into the northerly wind. Shortly after it passed me, it went back to the south end of the channel (by the pump station), and approached me again. It did this six times. Then I ran out of memory in my camera. This was the worst timing, since it was very close to me and literally walking on water. Here's one of the last pictures I took:

I went back to the car to get another memory card, but I could not find the gull again. I'll probably post a few more photos to

The first-winter FRANKLIN'S GULL was cooperatively feeding in the outflow
channel at Sunnyvale Ponds between 11 and 12 this morning (9/30), when I
walked out there.
