I visited Charleston Slough in Mt. View this afternoon. Along the left side of the main walkway were the usual ducks and shorebirds. Among them were two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and a male BLUE-WINGED TEAL. I did not see the REDHEAD I saw there a few days ago. There was a WHITE-TAILED KITE perched on a post.
I watched for a while as a PIED-BILLED GREBE was trying to swallow a huge fish (for its size). I thought it would be impossible, since the fish seemed wider than the bird's head. After many, many tries, it somehow managed to swallow the fish. I was really impressed that it could get it down. I"m guessing it won't have to eat for a while :)
I caught it on video and posted it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50ATqOH7YcY
Other bird videos are posted here: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=manolodorecho
Happy birding.
Manny
