I was in fact there between about noon and 1 PM on Saturday, joining
several other birders. The Sapsucker was in view for most of that time,
high in the tamarsisk along the road, and mostly working in one small
area. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to get a clear view of the
bird, except for a few brief visits to a spot less concealed by the
foliage. I can't speak for the others who were there, but for myself
I was unable to adequately view the features distinguishing Yellow-bellied
from Red-naped (although it appeared to have no Red-breasted component).
