At the EEC today, 10 Nov 06, there were 2 HOUSE WRENS and a YELLOW WARBLER lingering. An adult PEREGRINE FALCON was perched on the power tower just east of the slough where the entrance road bends.
Later, I walked the bike path along Coyote Creek south from Metcalf Road. When I got out of the car an OSPREY was heading out of sight over the riparian, while another bird was perched on a power pole in the PG&E substation. Down at Coyote Ranch Park, heading back, I had a group of geese fly over that consisted of 11 CACKLING and 7 CANADA. Some minutes later a homogenous flock of 24 CACKLING GEESE went by in the same direction, towards the south. Hundreds of CANADAS went by later in small groups. On the way home I went by way of Bailey Road, where I found all the geese in a corn stubble field there. Here, I could closely scrutinize the 35 CACKLING GEESE in with them (the exact same number I saw fly over!). I don't know if any of these
birds were the same as those I saw yesterday but, like yesterday, I feel that all these birds are minima. It seems to me that this number of these geese is somewhat unprecedented in the county.
