Today I birded the San Antonio Valley. No Phainopeplas & only 1 male
LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCH at mile 16.5. The surprise of the day were 12
LEWIS'S WOODPECKERs. Three were at the historical woodpecker spot
1/10th of a mile south of the junction. There were 4 at about mile 17,
and then 5 more in oaks at the south end of the valley right before the
road starts up into the chaparral. Every crow I saw turned into a
woodpecker glowing in the afternoon sun. Spectacular!
