[SBB] Ruff and Red Knot

Hi all.

Yesterday, 10/31, I saw a new to me RUFF in the first pond on the right as
you walk out the spurs tracks in the New Chicago Marsh. I imagine it was
the same Ruff reported by Mike Mammoser the previous day farther out the
tracks but I found the legs to be more a dull yellowish than orangeish in
my particlar view. The basal half of the bill was yellow with maybe a
touch of orange and a bit of a sooty mixing look near the middle. The
tertials, scapulars and many coverts were very dark or blackish centered
with mostly rufous edging although some were white edged. My impression
was that this was a large Ruff but there was nothing around for size
comparison.

Today, 11/1, I tried for Red Knots at the Stevens Creek mouth based on Bob
Reilings report. The huge numbers of shorebirds were impressive, a well as
the sound, but I found only one RED KNOT today. On the way back to my car
I saw the ORANGE BISHOP pair foraging just north of the bridge that is near
the end of Crittenden Ln. I then noticed a muskrat swimming upstream. It
was approaching a very still Great Blue Heron and I was thinking this could
be an interesting encounter. However, the muskrat simply submerged and
passed the heron underwater. The heron was tracking it and took a step
foward but that was all that happened.
