There have been numerous trip reports this spring which have noted the lack of migrating song birds, or small numbers of them. There is an interesting article in the latest issue of Bird Watcher's Digest, written by a man in Texas who has been recording and photographing migrants in his yard since 1977. He has charted the numbers of migrants by warblers and all others. Where in the past he used to see many species by the dozens, now there are days when he sees none. Obviously the loss of habitat on their wintering grounds has had an impact on the number of migrants we now see far beyond our imagination.
