[SBB] Gilroy sewage ponds

This morning, 3 May 06, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was singing along Llagas Creek from the field just south of the southern-most sewage pond.

Shorebirds in the area included a WHIMBREL flying over adjacent fields, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 41 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and 4 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. A CASPIAN TERN was standing in shallow water in one of the ponds. I don't think there are any fish here, so I don't know why it would be at this location.

A single female BUFFLEHEAD was hanging around, and I only found one GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW here. A GREEN HERON was along the creek.

On the way home, I again had the pair of GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES at the Coyote Creek Golf Club. They were foraging on the grass next to the water hazard, on the side opposite the club house.

Later in the day, a search of the EEC proved fruitless for turnstones. I did have a SPOTTED SANDPIPER on one of the islands in salt pond A16. Gulls still present here included a WESTERN, some RING-BILLEDS, and 2 HERRING. A BEWICK'S WREN was singing at the EEC building.
