On Saturday, Chris MacIntosh and I identified a single PURPLE MARTIN flying
over the top of Bald Mtn. in the Sierra Azul OSP. This was early
afternoon, sunny skies which cleared after a foggy morning. We commented
on how Starling-like the bird was, but the larger size, swallow-like flight
pattern, slightly notched tail, and overall dark color of the bird told us
it was a martin.
Another interesting sighting: A single WILD TURKEY jogging along the road
on our way up to the parking lot. Luckily she darted off before the
approach of any oncoming traffic.
