Ginger and I did some birding in Alviso from 8:30am to 10:30am today,
where we got good looks at a WILSON'S WARBLER and LINCOLN'S SPARROW
in the eastern corner of the small marsh in the Northeast corner of
237 and Gold Street.
The Environmental Education Center in Alviso had a conspicuous OSPREY
on the drive in, and FOX SPARROW and WESTERN KINGBIRD near the
parking area. 25 WHITE PELICANS sat at the far end of the first
island on Salt Pond A16; 15 or so more White Pelicans flew to the
north as well. At least one BARN OWL was sleeping in the owl box. We
saw a male-female pair of BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS in the garden, as
well as AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and WHITE- and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS.
Salt Pond A16 also had several EARED GREBES, two BUFFLEHEAD, several
NORTHEN PINTAIL and AMERICAN WIGEON (at the far side). We saw
NORTHERN HARRIER at least twice during our hike. We also managed to
see five species of Swallow (TREE, BARN, CLIFF, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
and VIOLET-GREEN).
Our total species count for Alviso today was 62.
