Hi,
As many of you know, Black-crowned Night-herons have been nesting in the
trees around the Palo Alto duck pond and nearby ranger's station. I paid a
quick visit this morning and was amused by all the squawking and grumbling
from tree to tree. Perhaps a comment on the weather? I didn't investigate
thoroughly, but I remember a lot more egrets were in the palms last year.
Someone commented that the herons seem to have established their nests
before the egrets this year.
The 30+ Black Skimmers were sitting on their island in Charleston Slough
and flew a couple of circles in the air during my visit.
Good birding,
Nancy Teater
