Hi all,
I spent the morning at the Palo Alto Baylands photographing birds, mostly
around the duck pond. I also managed to get some nice shots of the
semi-tame RING-NECKED PHEASANT which was very cooperative. I had a male
NORTHERN HARRIER fly directly overhead at one point. I have posted some
photos on my website site here:

I would appreciate it if any list members can help me ID the SCAUPS in the
four photos in the web gallery referenced above. (Even when I think I've
distinguished the lessers from the greaters, I'm happier if I can receive
validation.)
This afternoon I spent some time birding in Stevens Creek County Park. The
birds were pretty quiet, but I did manage to see a few good birds. In the
Canyon picnic area, there were two HUTTON'S VIREOS singing and chasing one
another. In the Villa Maria area, there were a pair (male and female) of
WESTERN BLUEBIRDS. I also saw a male WESTERN TANAGER in one of the larger
oaks, my first of the season. A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK flew in, resting on one
of the large utility towers before flying back in the direction from which
it came.
Good birding everyone,
Michael Pollack
