Yesterday, March 8, I birded the Arzino Ranch in
Alviso from the northeast corner of the Jubilee Church parking lot
starting about 4PM. I soon found a GOLDEN EAGLE in the mid part of the
pasture. It was working on what I believe was a rabbit. The field marks of fully
featherd legs, yellow/orange cere, and white bill with black tip were very
evident. After 20 minutes or so it flew east to a power pole on the
far side ,much to the consternation of the large number of Canada Geese
present. After a short time it flew directly over me toward the west and
disappeared.
As it passed over I could see that it was very dark
with the exception of one pale spot in the center of the tail. It may be
that it was not a yet an fully adult bird.
