Folks:
This morning, 5/12/06, I walked down to Table Mountain on Charcoal Road and
returned by the Upper Table Mountain Trail (or is it the Table Mountain
Upper Trail?). Many summer residents were in vigorous song, notably
Warbling Vireos, Orange-crowned Warblers, and Black-headed
Grosbeaks. About 100-200 m before the Saratoga Gap OSP sign (which is a
bit above where the road splits off to the residences), I saw a male HERMIT
WARBLER singing in a small grove of Douglas firs. For the 15 min I stayed
there, he remained in this one grove. Although Hermit Warblers are still
moving through, this may be a resident bird since they have nested nearby
in the past. There was recent sign of PILEATED WOODPECKER work on Table
Mountain and I heard a bird west of there on my walk back.
