Guadalupe Oak Grove Park produced some nice birds for me this morning.
Anna's Hummingbird sitting on her nest in a tree near the first parking
space.
Swainson's Thrush on the right side of the wooded trail just past
the large fallen tree. It quickly flew but I found this shy bird several
more times for some nice looks. A Black headed Grosbeak's hard
spick call was heard nearby. An Orange crowned Warbler and
Warbling Vireo seen on the hill along the quarry trail. As I
walked up the stairs a pair of W. Tanagers flew by. An Ash
throated Flycatcher was seen on the ridge. As it called I
heard a higher pitch call and found a second (female?) ATFL near the
north stairs. Another ATFL was calling from a large Valley Oak at the top
of Buckeye Hill. I heard a Wilson's Warbler as I walked down the
stairs and found the male singing in the oak tree with long weeping
branches. I spend a long time looking for the singing Yellow
Warbler in an oak near the big rock at the trail junction. A pair
of W. Bluebirds and another Black headed Grosbeak were seen here.
A Red shouldered Hawk and two Band tailed Pigeons seen in the open
area. Several dozen Violet Green Swallows, four N.
Rough winged Swallows and one White throated Swift
were seen, as were the usual woodland birds.
