After reading that someone had seen a juvie Cooper's,
I had to go check on the ones at River Oaks. (My
company is closed this week). Just as I was pulling
up to the front door, I saw a bird flying to the roof.
I immediately stopped and got a good look at a
juvenile
Cooper's. He was facing the car, so I could easily
see the vertical brown stripes on a white breast.
After parking the car, I managed to get a look at 3 of
them at the same time. the juvies are practicing
longer distances from the nest trees to the roof of
the building and trees on the side.
And you could clearly hear their 'feed me' cries!
That was on Thursday, July 6.
On July 5 I was having coffee with a friend outside
the Martin Luther King Library in SJ. I heard a dis-
tinct Kree Kree Kre and looked up to see a hawk
zipping overhead. Offhand I would say a
Red-Shouldered; based on the call. Not a good look
among the buildings at that point.
