Some highlights of my birding the past few days. All within 10 miles of home!!
Rancho Canada Del Oro Open Space; Singing Lazuli Bunting, Barn Owl, at least a dozen W. Wood Pewee's, several Black headed Grosbeak and Warbling Vireos, 2 Ash throated Flycatcher families, a dozen Yellow billed Magpies, singing Purple Finch, 1 Yellow Warbler, 3 Huttons Vireos 1 a juvenile, Wild Turkey family group, Am. Kestrel, two singing Wilson's Warblers and a Blue gray Gnatcatcher.
Alamitos Creek Trail north of Camden; 3 Pacific slope Flycatchers, juv and adults, 7 Vaux's Swifts, W. Kingbird family, Cal. Quail families, Purple Finch, Belted Kingfisher, Warbling Vireo, Am. Kestrel, Red shouldered Hawk adult and juv. and a very large male Bobcat.
Calero Creek trail and IBM Research; 3 adult W. Kingbirds, Pacific slope Flycatcher, Red tailed Hawk juv. and adults, 2 immature Great Horned Owls, Rufous crowned Sparrow, Wrentit, W. Bluebird family group, No. Flicker pair, Black headed Grosbeaks and several Cal. Quail groups, a dozen Black tailed Deer and Jack Rabbits.
Twin Creeks; singing male W. Tanager, Black headed Grosbeak fledgling being fed by adult, 3 W. Wood Pewee's, Red shouldered Hawk fledgling and adult, m. Belted Kingfisher, singing Yellow Warbler.
Chesbro Reservoir area; Olive sided Flycatcher, 4 Wood Ducks, adult and juv. Osprey, Great Blue Heron, Tree and Violet Green Swallows, 2 Black necked Stilts, Ash throated Flycatcher group, Forsters Tern, Wild Turkey, Western Bluebirds, assorted egrets and herons and Hooded Oriole male feeding juvenile. A beautiful wild rooster and hen seen along road.
White tailed Kite mobbing Golden Eagle, seen from front yard.
