Re: [SBB] Rancho Screech Owl

Hi Phil,

Nice shot. Are you the same Phil I met yesterday morning?

I checked the tree several times yesterday (June 2), but the only time I saw the Western Screech-Owl was just before sunset. Here's a photo:

I also saw it on Thursday, June 1, around 7:00pm, but it was sleeping. I must say that Cynthia Berg's directions were excellent. I would not have spotted the owl without knowing that I had to walk past the tree and look 9 feet up. It blends in really well with the tree.

I was fortunate this morning to find the WESTERN SCREECH OWL that has been previously reported at Rancho San Antonio.  He (she??) even sat still for 30 minutes for a portrait before retreating into his hole.

Thanks to Karen for the good directions.
