Monday afternoon the first quail chicks were brought
into the back yard by their parents. There were 10 to
15, hard to count when they're running around in and
out of bushes. They about the size of a tennis
ball....so round and fluffy. I don't recall seeing
such small ones in years past.
We're seeing the adult male Hooded Oriole at the
hummingbird feeder infrequently. Juncos are showing
up again, as well as an adult male Spotted Towhee.
There are a couple of Acorn Woodpeckers fond of the
Wagner's birdseed in the hanging wooden feeder near
the patio. A few Lesser Goldfinch are slowly eating
the Nyjer seed. Plenty of dove and House Finch, of
course.
