BIG BACKYARD BIRD YEAR, JULY 21, 2006
Young yard birds:
Quail..somewhere between 25 and 30
Mockingbird.. 1
CA Towhee..3 or 4
Spotted Towhee..2
Hooded Oriole..1male first summer, 1 female, 7/21/06
The adult male was first seen June 5 and 8. Was
not seen again until July 4 and has been regularly
feeding at the Hummingbird feeder. This seems to be a
yearly pattern. I presume he has just had his second
family fledged near here. We are only now seeing the
young.
Junco...3 or 4 young, now seeing the adults once
again.
Lesser Goldfinch still feeding on Nyjer..unable to
count young. They also eat the leaves of my
Sunflower plants.
Anna's Hummingbird..one
Acorn Woodpecker...2 or 3
Dove...unable to count
Scrub Jay..2 or more
House Finch and House Sparrow...unable to count
Black-headed Grosbeak, female. Coloring appears as
non breeding (Sibley.) July 5 and 19.
