[SBB] Ross's Goose at Bayfront Park

Tuesday, Jan 31 ~3:00pm, Bay Front Park, Menlo Park

Andrea Lajoie spotted a small white goose with six
CANADA GEESE. The seven birds flew in from the
northeast and landed on a grassy strip between the
walking path and the edge of the salt pond. Viewed at
close range (30m) for ten minutes in good lighting,
the small white goose had a small bill with no "grin
patch". A definite ROSS'S GOOSE, not a SNOW GOOSE. All
seven geese went into the salt pond when a cyclist
spead by on the path.

At 4:30pm Andrea and Ken Lajoie had no luck spotting
the white goose again. We will visit the park over the
next several days and report any further sightings.

About four years ago we spotted a SNOW GOOSE at the
park with CANADA GEESE. That bird stayed the entire
winter and was seen numerous times at various
localities throughout the park. Hopefully the ROSS"S
GOOSE will do the same.

This was only our second visit to the park this
winter, and neither time did we see the "resident"
BLUE-WINGED TEAL in the pond on the left side of the
road, just beyond the park entrance.
