Late morning today at the Charleston Road marsh (Mountain View), I
heard the Waterthrush call more than about 70 times from two locations
(and in transit between them) near the east end. This is far more
than I've ever heard it call before. Nonetheless, I didn't manage to
spot it (except for an unidentifiable glimpse in flight).
At the opposite extreme, mid-PM yesterday the Red-necked Grebe at the
first pond off the CCFS levee was easy to view. Indeed, it didn't seem
like it would be doing much more moving around. It was on land at the
northeast corner of the pond at 2:30, and was still there at 3:00.
It was sleeping, motionless, but I did get its attention for a moment.
I also checked the waterbird pond, but didn't find any interesting
Gulls in the vicinity.
