I watched a COOPER'S HAWK sit in the
birdbath in my backyard (on Mossbrook Circle, near Westgate), from
1:00 to 1:30 this afternoon. She alertly looked around and occasionally
washed with a comical dip and tail lift. She appeared to be nearly as long
as the 20" diameter of the bath. The lower lid of her right eye
didn't come down quite enough -- old wound? The small yard, which is
usually busy with birds around a feeder and the bath, was very
quiet (no surprise), though a Black Phoebe seemed unconcerned and perched on a
deck chair about 10 yds from the hawk.
