Happy New Year all......
First bird of 2006: White-breasted Nuthatch
The winds are fierce up here at Rinconada Hills...lots of downed trees and
all my regular birds at the feeders.
Nuttall's Woodpecker (female)
Lesser Goldfinch
American Goldfinch
House Finch
CA Towhee
Titmouse
Chickadee
Gold-crowned Sparrows
Juncos
Bewick's Wren
White-breasted Nuthatch
In the backyard this morning I had a Sharp-shinned take a House
Finch...drive it into the wall (with the help of the wind) and then the
winds were so fierce that the Sharp-shinned sat stunned on the fence and
holding the finch in its talon...took him a few seconds to regain his balance
and flew off with the finch.
My walk around Rinconada yielded:
Coots
Mallards
Pied-billed Grebes
Canada Geese
Yellow-rumped Warblers
Juncos
Still waiting for the CA Thrasher to make its appearance.
Good birding to all....
