[SBB] Palo Alto Baylands, Friday.

Took time off Friday to get outside, and ended up off at the Palo
Alto Baylands. The set of photos from the trip are here: http://
www.flickr.com/photos/chuqui/sets/72057594071114716/" (blog on this
with more details here: http://chuqui.typepad.com/teal_sunglasses/
2006/02/palo_alto_bayla.html).

Seen were American Avocets, black-necked stilts, the pied-billed
grebe, Northern shoveler, and a green-winged teal, Canada Geese,
greater scaup, ruddy duck, a very habituated Ring-Necked pheasant
(who was as curious about me as I was about him -- the only thing he
preferred to hide from were the dogs -- and it was fascinating to see
him disappear into the weeds when one came near) -- and the
pheasant's four girlfriends; we were visited repeatedly by a Northern
Harrier, and a merlin made a dramatic visit, appearing out of nowhere
and skimming the mudflats at about 5' and then landing on light pole
for easy pictures... Also one great egret and the rare but not
photgenic Mallard Duck and Coot.

unidentified birds: a flycatcher of some sort, I think a Phoebe, but
I'm just not sure; a shorebird I think is a marbled godwit, but
again, I'm not comfortable labelling the photo with it (yet); and the
required Little Brown Bird, which might be a chipping sparrow.
