Hi SBBers,
For those who have missed seeing Mountain Plovers at Panoche Valley, where
they used to be abundant, if your car can make it to the North Bay, there's
a reliable spot near Rio Vista where plovers have been seen multiple times
this winter. My friend and I saw about 200 on Saturday (a lifer for both of
us).
Directions: the plovers are east of Highway 113 off of Highway 12. They are
in a pasture approximately at the junction of Robinson and Flannery Roads.
They were feeding in an area where hay had been dropped for the cattle.
You'll need a good county map to locate the right junction. For anyone
interested, I can send you an attachment with the site description sent by
East Bay birders. You will be greeted by my spam filter -- follow the
directions to send your message to me.
