Now I know why it's been so easy to find the male Eurasian
Wigeon at Palo Alto Baylands. There are two of them!
I found a second one this afternoon feeding in the pickleweed
with a mixed flock of American wigeon, green-winged teal and
shovelers. The second was about 30 feet of the first. I had
them both under observation for about 45 minutes. At several
points, I had both of them in the field of view at the same
time.
Also, one of the Eurasian wigeon was trying to mate with a
female. Several times, he tried to mount, but she wasn't
cooperating.
The Eurasion wigeon continue to hang out at low tide in the
lagoon opposite the ranger station and picnic area. At high
tide, they move back up the channel to the area west of
restrooms by the sailing station.
