[SBB] Found Three Dippers in Los Gatos Creek

We got out to Los Gatos around 4:45 PM this afternoon and picked up the trail at the Main Street Bridge.  We walked on the west side of the creek and went about 1 mile before we found AMERICAN DIPPERS.

We could see one on a rock, the rock was in the middle of the creek. A second dipper was in the water next to this rock. Although both birds stayed in the same spot for quite some time, the dipper in the water was dipping and pivoting.   We could also hear them calling.

This area of the creek was up the trail and past a park bench. In this area there was a power pole with the number GT 105889 on the side.  There is also a very large boulder here at the water level.  We slid down the side of the bank to take a closer look at the boulder.  We could not find any evidence of nesting. But it was here we saw the three dippers at one time.  Two appeared to be doing the "flight chase" as described in Sibley's Bird Life and Behavior book.  They flew up and down the stream very close to each other and singing.  The song was more in depth than the high pitch chipping I usually hear.

This was all happening at 5:45 PM - 6:00 PM as dusk took over.  Even as we observed from the waters edge, they did not seem too concerned with us.

We also found two female COMMON MERGANSERS and MALLARDS.
