I visited Vasona Lake Park today, 2/9/06, and saw 22 common species.
It might be worth noting that an Eared Grebe was feeding among the
boat docks and 4 Killdeer were mobbing the Rock Pigeons as though
defending a nest on the dock. A Spotted Sandpiper was bobbing along
the edge of the lake near the boat ramp. Also saw 1 Common Merganser
in the stream. There were 5 Western Bluebirds near the heronry.
At least 3 of the nests of the Great Blue Heron heronry were
occupied, my reason for going there today.
