[SBB] Whimbrel (video), Blue-Winged Teal at Palo Alto Baylands

Around 11:00am today I went to Charleston Slough. The wind was fierce, making it hard to use the telescope and, at times, to stand straight. Even the birds were getting knowcked around.

There were 5 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (3 males) on the left side of the main trail, along with about 40 CINNAMON TEAL and too many SHOVELERS to count. No other unusual ducks. On the small island in Charleston Slough there were many gulls, including 5 HERRING GULLS, 1 GLACOUS-WINGED GULL, along with many WESTERN and RING-BILLED GULLS. A group of about 200 MARBLED GODWITS tried to land on the island several times, but they kept getting knocked around by the wind (which at times knocked me around as well). Around the island, there were about 250 CANVASBACK.

Up at the end of Embarcadero Rd, accross the street from teh Palo Alto duck pond, there were about 200 BONAPARTES GULLS. About 50 yards past the Ranger station (on the right of the road) there were two WHIMBRELS. One was very close and very cooperative. I posted a video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgzg_UnrgfM

In the same spot there were also 200+ WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 100+ LEAST SANDPIPERS, 25+ DUNLIN and two LONG-BILLED CURLEW.
