On Friday afternoon Kay Partelow and I visited Shoreline from the
kite-flying entrance. There were many Canada Geese on the lawn near
the kite area. We looked through them to see if there were any small
ones, and there was one, a BRANT. Further along was a flock of American Pipit.
Brant pics are here: http://moonlittrails.com/Shoreline/
Two Loggerhead Shrikes were seen, perched on sticks.
A Greater Yellowlegs was dashing about in the mitigation channel,
next to a Dowitcher.
Three sightings of Common Yellowthroat (two at once) and a Sora were
gained at the wooden bridge. There were quite a few Sora vocalizing,
and at least two of them were giving multiple single-note calls. A
couple of the calls sounded like Northern Flicker "clear" calls.
We flushed a female Ring-necked Pheasant from under the metal bridge.
In Crittenden Marsh, there were many ducks, including a BLUE-WINGED TEAL.
We had a limited amount of time, so we didn't get to finish looking
at the whole area. When we went back to the lot, the geese were gone.
