All,
I found a few birds of note during a 10K run from work through Shoreline
Park today 12/13/06. A HOUSE WREN was calling along Stevens Creek near
the willow about 100 yards south of the Crittenden Lane bridge and 25
AMERICAN PIPITS were along the southern edge of Salt Pond A2W (no
longspurs heard among them). Coming back through the Shoreline
Amphitheater dirt overflow parking lot, I noted several small flocks of
geese. The largest group, at the northern edge of the lot, had 2 SNOW
GEESE (1 adult, 1 immature) and 3 CACKLING GEESE (apparently 2 ALEUTIAN
- one with a neck ring - and 1 minima, smaller and darker breasted than
the others) among the many CANADA GEESE. Hopefully these birds will stay
around for the Christmas Count on Monday!
