Re: [SBB] need help identifying hawk at Bayfront Park, Menlo Park

I think I saw the same hawk at the Byxbee Park in September. It chased a jackrabbit, and then perched on a low branch, where it let me take close-up photos. I have six photos starting with this one:

I was puzzled by the white patches, so I asked about it on birdforum.net. The experts said that it was a western (caluris) Red-tailed Hawk with a few aberrant feathers that lacked pigmentation.

Can anyone help with an id of an immature raptor at Bayfront Park in Menlo Park, seen near the intersection of Grecko Island and Salt Pond R4 today at 11:00 a.m. Dark bird, streaked breast, striped tail, about 22 in tall, white, patchy areas on head and throat (osprey like). Observable today at very close range, appears tame almost! Seen chasing jackrabbit and assuming low perches on vegetation and man-made structures in area.
