[SBB] Rancho Canada Del Oro

Today 12-06-06, Shao Chen and I birded on the Rancho Canada Del Oro Open Space trails. A flock of 40 Band tailed Pigeons flew over the parking lot and perched in the tops of trees. We saw the first of many Varied Thrush at the start of the Longwall trail. Hermit Thrush were calling all along the trail. No. Flickers, Nuttalls, Acorn and a Hairy Woodpecker were seen. Several Wrentits and a No. Pygmy Owl was heard only on the Longwall trail.

We found six more Varied Thrush along Casa Loma Rd. A Belted Kingfisher was seen flying down Llargas Creek. Woodland species including Townsend's Warbler seen from the paved road. A White-throated Sparrow feeding on the road with several Golden-crowned Sparrows seen near the walnut orchard. A Golden Eagle overhead was the last bird of the morning.
