Birders:
This morning 8/27/06 after seeing the PECTORAL SANDPIPER from the boardwalk at EEC and 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERs on separate islands pointed out by Steve Rottenborn at State & Spreckles, I found another Baird's Sandpiper in the pond off the EEC entrance road near the big sign. Dave Weber drove up and told me of the BASA near the EEC boardwalk so apparently there were at least 4 BASAs in the area this morning.
I went to the boardwalk to see the other BASA but the peeps were flushed by a PEREGRINE FALCON which stooped several times on a NORTHERN HARRIER. This pair I saw yesterday afternoon when both of them dove at the peeps leaving me peepless.
Also today at EEC was a WESTERN and a WILLOW FLYCATCHER. Both are adult birds with white/off-white wing bars. On Friday afternoon, 8/25/06, I saw both species there also but the Western Flycatcher that day had buffy wing bars.
Later Friday afternoon I biked along Stevens Creek between L'Avenida and Crittenden Lane. There was a 1st winter WILLOW FLYCATCHER and a WILSON'S WARBLER on the east side of the creek.
Good birding,
Peggy Don
