Today, 26 Aug 06, I visited New Chicago Marsh,
starting off at the State and Spreckles pond. There
were about 150 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS on the telephone
wires nearby. A number of VAUX'S SWIFTS were overhead
- somewhere between 20 and 30 of them.
On the boardwalk I found Ann Verdi with a staked-out
PECTORAL SANDPIPER she had found. I then went up on
the levee to check the salt pond, finding another
PECTORAL feeding out on the algae mat.
A BARN OWL was roosting in the nest box along the
slough, but a check for migrants around the parking
lot turned up only a large number of COMMON
YELLOWTHROATS and a couple of BEWICK'S WRENS.
