All,
This morning Pat Kenny, Roland Kenner, Janna Pauser, Frank Vanslager and I
had a juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPER in the southeastern most water bearing pond
(near the "hill" and the facility entrance) in the Gilroy Water
Treatment Facility. Later Mike Mammoser re-found the bird in the
northeastern most pond in the facility (200 yd's north of where it was first
seen). We also had 4 to 5 WILSON'S SNIPE each in two widely
separated ponds (total 8-10 WISN). At least two WILSON'S PHALAROPE
joined the RED-NECKED PHALAROPES (it trying to look like a Lesser Yellowlegs as
it fed with GREATER YELLOWLEGS), LESSER YELLOWLEGS (2), "peeps," and
KILLDEER in these two ponds. A PEREGRINE FALCON was briefly
seen standing in a dry section of one "pond," unfortunately it flew before
we could get a closer look. Apparently the two Mute Swans left the
facility about a week ago.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
