[SBB] birding 7 Aug

Today, 7 Aug 06, I went to New Chicago Marsh in Alviso
and walked the railroad tracks looking for shorebirds.
There were about 400 peeps in the furthest pond on the
left and a few hundred more scattered about the marsh,
mostly WESTERN SANDPIPERS. I had one juvenile WESTERN,
the only juv peep I could find there. Of the 10 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS I saw, 2 were juveniles. I also had an
adult CASPIAN TERN with a juvenile in the middle of
the marsh.

Looking across the tracks to the impoundment that is
north of the marina, I saw a downy young SNOWY PLOVER
and another individual that may have been a juvenile.

Going next to the Sunnyvale Sewage Ponds, I found
nothing unusual along the south levee of the East
Pond, but noticing Bob Reiling and Frank Vanslager out
at the northeast corner of the West Pond, I headed out
there. When I arrived they were looking at a juvenile
BLACK TERN that was hanging around the small mud
island there. Scanning the island I picked out a
basic-plumaged COMMON TERN and pointed it out to those
guys. There was also a juvenile WESTERN SANDPIPER here
too.
