Folks:
Yesterday morning, 8/4/06, I walked out the RR tracks to the track
junction at New Chicago Marsh and returned. There are a lot of
ardeids foraging in the channels in the main marsh, I counted 123
SNOWY EGRETS. One SNOWY PLOVER was in the track junction pond (if I
can call the pond SE of the junction by that name) and 7 more were in
the dried-out pond N of Alviso Marina CP. I saw four LESSER
YELLOWLEGS at various places in the marsh. Most of the 274 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES were in the track junction pond; 20 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
were in various spots. A BURROWING OWL was N of the entrance road.
I had thought that juvenile peeps would be showing up by now, but I
failed to find any, or any juvenile phalaropes, for that
matter. Usually by mid-July we are once again seeing large flocks
(100 or more birds) of Am. White Pelicans in the Alviso area, but
I've not noted any yet.
