I arrived at Santa Teresa Park early and walked along the Calero Creek trail where the sparrows were abundant but very shy. I saw White, Golden and Rufous crowned, Lark, Savannah, Song and Lincoln's Sparrows. Western Meadowlarks singing and Cal. Thrasher, and Wrentits were calling. No. Flicker, Hairy, Acorn and Nuttalls Woodpeckers were also seen. Two White-tailed Kites were perched together in a tree top. Each with noticeable buffy breast band indicating very young birds. They begged from each other a bit. No adults were seen here. A Say's Phoebe's was fly catching and would not be intimated by a Black Phoebe. W. Bluebird was seen near the orchard with other common species. Adult Golden Eagle seen soaring over the hills near Schillingsburg and McKean.
At Santa Teresa and Richmond I counted 9 White-tailed Kites, most sitting in the field or perched just above the stubble. Another buff breasted juvenile kite was seen in flight here. A flock of a dozen Savannah Sparrows were also feeding in the field. A Loggerhead Shrike was perched on the wire near the golf center and several Am. Kestrels seen along Santa Teresa. At least one hundred Red-winged Blackbirds took flight and hundreds more were perched in some dense trees were making a tremendous racket. I didn't notice any Tri-colored Blackbirds. Something frightened the Killdeer and sixty took flight further east on Richmond. One Band-tailed Pigeon also seen.
I took Warm Springs Rd. to Chesbro Reservoir where I found 3 Wood Ducks, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, many Red tailed Hawks and two Red shouldered Hawks. From Old Oak Glenn Rd. I walked out on the mud flats and saw approximately the same birds I saw a month ago. Two Wilson's Snipe sitting very close together, 8 Black-necked Stilts, 2 Spotted Sandpipers, 1 G. Yellowlegs and a Say's Phoebe which was fly catching from the fence. In the oaks along the road I found common woodland species and 2 Townsend's Warblers. Several No. Flickers were calling or seen in flight. A male Belted Kingfisher was patrolling the waters and finally my FOS Red-breasted Sapsucker, very close and very still. Only one Yellow-billed Magpie was seen near Casa Loma Rd. on my way home.
