I walked Stevens Creek from L'Avenida past the lone euc early this morning
with my camera. Lots of YELLOW WARBLERS and PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS and I
managed to get a decent picture of each.

Also one LINCOLN SPARROW and a bunch of Zonos, some of both species
singing. No rarities, but I did get several bad pictures of a vireo, too
deep in the foliage for good views or photos. I'm really no expert on these
guys, but looking at my books I wonder if it isn't a bit contrasty, dark in
the lores and crown, and yellow below, for Warbling Vireo. Maybe these
features are in the normal range for fall WAVI, or maybe the pictures are
just too bad for anyone to tell. But I'm posting them just in case they
suggest anything interesting.

I ran into Lisa Myers' group at the end of my walk back at L'Avenida, and
while Lisa and I were exchanging info across the creek, the plate popped
off the end of my tripod, sending much expensive photo equipment crashing
to the pavement. Thanks to you nice folks for your concern -- I took some
test shots when I got home, and the camera and lens came through unscathed.
I went by Keeble and Schuchat on the way home, and the camera repair guy
said he had never in all his years seen a plate come off a good tripod in
the way mine did. I went on to Ace Hardware where I got the appropriate
wrench to keep the relevant bolt tight.
