Hi All,
My first Ruby-crowned Kinglets of the fall arrived at the little pond near Gate 5 at Monte Bello OSP this morning 9/22/2005. Two individuals were encountered at different spots. A Sharp-shinned Hawk was making the resident quail very anxious at the pond with repeated attacks. Two Western Tanagers winged by; the only other migrants today (excepting recent arrivals which are settling in for winter) were approximately 20 Violet-green Swallows overhead (2.5 miles to the west in SM County, 800-900 more VGSW were staging at their traditional location on the telephone wires above the Big Dipper Ranch cattle chute on Alpine Rd.)
A Pileated Woodpecker called once from somewhere down the Stevens Creek canyon.
At Hidden Villa on Friday 9/16, a late pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers heckled a group of volunteers-in-training from the chaparral along the Toyon Hill trail.
