This morning (Sun, 9/18) around 8:30 am the SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen
again on the marshy mudflats of the Guadalupe River channel north of the Coleman
Rd bridge.
An AMERICAN BITTERN was also seen a bit further downstream in the reeds.
Also in the same vicinity a not-so-common COMMON MOORHEN was seen. The Sora
was not seen at this time.
The best viewing for all these birds was from the east side of the river -
not from the SCVWD side. The birds were located along the west side of the
river but could not be seen from the west side because of heavy vegetation
obscuring the mudflats.
Three of us were present to view these birds at this time - Vivek Tiwari,
Mike Mammoser, and myself.
It seems that lately this short stretch of the Guadalupe River is
experiencing a "Patagonia effect".
