[SBB] Monte Bello's Gate 5 pond 9/7/2005

Hi All,

A stop in at the Gate 5 pond at Monte Bello OSP this morning 9/7/2005 turned up a few goodies, albeit mostly familiar ones. A flock of perhaps 50 swallows and swifts foraged over the pond from my arrival at 8:30 until about 9:30, and included mostly Violet-greens, but among them were at least 16 Vaux's Swifts and a couple of Barn Swallows.

White-crowned Sparrows had arrived; all 4 individuals seen this morning were immatures. I saw 5 Savannah Sparrows but suspected as many more from the soft calls emanating from the coyote brush. 3 Chipping Sparrows appeared to be a family group and may well be the same batch I've been seeing here for the past several weeks. Today's CHSP included two adults and a juvenile. At least one Lazuli Bunting was still lingering.

Migrants included my first Yellow-rumped Warbler of the fall, and one each Orange-crowned Warbler and Western Tanager.
