I walked along the Calero Creek Trail from Fortini Rd. at the southern entrance to Santa Teresa Park this morning. Approximately 15 HORNED LARKS were in the field on one side of the trail. Walking west, at least 100 SAVANNAH SPARROWS seen in the field and flying back and forth between the chaparral and field. A dozen LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, some in groups of 2 or 3, with more chipping from the chaparral. I found a BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER the third time in as many weeks. Four Cal. Thrashers, 3 Wrentits and 3 No. Flickers were seen or heard at several locations. Only two RUFOUS CROWNED SPARROWS were seen, more heard. Crows were mobbing a juv. White tailed Kite and two adult WTKI perched on a tree top. A Meadowlark was singing from the top of an big Valley Oak tree and others heard. Juv. Coopers Hawk, three Am. Kestrels, and two SAY'S PHOEBES were seen today. Lots of White crowned and Golden crowned Sparrows all along the trail and in the brush.

I stopped at the Santa Clara Valley Water District headquarters on Almaden Ex. late afternoon. The AM. BITTERN flew across the trail in front on me and landed in the river channel near the fenced area. I watched it walking with strange undulating movements and a halting gait on the bent reeds. It's throat stripes were spectacular when viewed closely. The adult PEREGRINE FALCON was perched in the bare Sycamore tree in the corner. No juv. PEFA seen today. I spotted a Hairy Woodpecker in the pine trees on the west side of the river channel after hearing its loud peek call. Five Ring necked Ducks on the main pond and 27 Snowy Egrets along the river channel today. Anna's Hummingbirds were numerous where native plants are blooming near the main building.
