This morning (Fri, 10/21) a PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in the bare limbs of a
sycamore overlooking the Guadalupe River spillway at the Santa Clara Valley
Water District (SCVWD) at Almaden Expwy & Coleman Rd in south San Jose. This
may be a returning bird as 1-2 Peregrine Falcons were seen here throughout
the previous winter months.
Dredging operations on the Guadalupe River channel between Coleman Rd and t
he spillway appear to be completed and the channel is now quite full with very
little roosting area for shorebirds. There is just a vestige of a gravel
bar at the confluence of Guadalupe Creek and the outflow coming from Alamitos
Creek/Almaden Lake, and this morning one WILSON'S SNIPE was seen. This is the
same area where several Wilson's Snipe have been seen lately.
That's it for now -
Ann Verdi
San Jose
