Good afternoon SBBers.....
While the hardwood floors are being redone I took a nice long walk around
Rinconada Hills.....the birds were out in full force.
Two WESTERN TANAGERS, a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and lots of YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS right outside my front door! Singing (and seen) CA THRASHERS, SPOTTED
TOWHEES everywhere. A single HERMIT THRUSH doing its chip note....it was great
to see, haven't seen one in awhile....BEWICK'S WREN was another plentiful
bird today.
BLACK-PHOEBEs made their presence known....and at the lake....a single
PIED-BILLED GREBE and pair of COOTS were swimming. Lots of MALLARDS and a single
(resident?) GREEN HERON.
The standard CHICKADEES, CA TOWHEES, OAKTITMICE, MOURNING DOVES AND HOUSE
FINCH were accounted for.
Yesterday, I had a COOPER'S HAWK run a Mourning Dove into my glass windows
and fly off with it in its talons before the mourning dove hit the ground.
Oops, almost forgot about the flock (8-10) Cedar Waxwings!
Still present in the backyard is the pair of RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS. The
juvies must have moved off in search of their own territory.
Wishing you all good birding....and my best regards....
Linda Sullivan
