Yesterday afternoon I stopped at the Palo Alto Duck Pond to eat lunch. While
there, an adult female COOPER'S HAWK flew down from one of the trees lining
the pond to one of the posts just next to it. The ducks on the path fled
into the water, and then returned to within a few feet. She then hopped down
onto the chains between the posts, getting closer to the water. Eventually
she attacked a swimming duck (possibly a Coot, I couldn't see), which only
lasted about 3 seconds. She then returned to the post, and eventually to the
tree.
