This morning Roland Kenner and I saw an interesting gull on the first island
in Salt Pond A16 at the EEC in Alviso. It appeared to be an adult Herring
Gull (similar in size, shape, mantle color, bill shape, primary color and
spotting of nearby Herring Gulls). What is interesting is that it had dark
orange legs and the bill was a deeper yellow than on the other Herring
Gulls. There were several Herring Gulls near this one, so it was pretty
easy to see the big difference in the deep orange colored legs compared to
the usual pink legs of Herring Gulls. The gull stood in the same spot on
the near end of the island for about half an hour around 11:00 this morning.
Take care.
Pat Kenny
